The whistle blew on the final match of the night across Europe, and it was a bad night for fans of the teams who lost. It was just another night of reading from my script before the camera crew arrived for me to read from it again.
As I’m sure you know, the majority of fans who placed bets on Match Day 7 are probably feeling pretty awful right now, and I can’t help but laugh knowing that it could’ve been worse for them than it was. The “main characters” of the night may be in the dumpster tonight along with those who followed the masses and placed their bets on Match Day 7.
Here’s how the story unfolded:
The Arctic Ambush: Bodø/Glimt 3-1 Man City
Fans of Manchester City were screaming for a big win over Bodø/Glimt and a ton of money was placed on betting on the Over 3.5 goals line. Fans thought that Manchester City would be able to dominate the game due to the massive difference in skill level between the two clubs. However, the story took an unexpected turn when Bodø/Glimt came out swinging and ended up dominating the game instead of being dominated by Manchester City. In the end, Bodø/Glimt won the match by a score of 3-1. Although the Over 3.5 goals line was hit, it wasn’t in the way that most people thought it would happen. The favorites were basically shut down.
The Madrid Disappearing Act
The spotlight was on the Bernabéu, and while the public expected goals, they got a total annihilation. Real Madrid dismantled Monaco in a 6-1 crushing. Vinícius Júnior, ever the protagonist, put the exclamation point on the performance by netting the 5-0 goal. While the “Anytime Goalscorer” market finally got their hero moment, the sheer scale of the collapse for Monaco was a scene few expected to be this lopsided.
Tactical Gridlock in London
This wasn’t a case of two teams sitting back and playing for a draw. The script for this match was ripped up in the opening minutes when Dortmund saw red. Forced to play with ten men, Spurs were never able to truly mount a reply to Tottenham’s clinical attack. Tottenham capitalized on the man advantage to slot home two goals, leaving the “Both Teams To Score” crowd empty-handed as Dortmund’s offense was sacrificed for defensive stability.
The Defenses Break in Milan
The only place the public received a “gift” was a misleading gift. While the world was hammering the Under 2.5 goal line because of Arsenal’s and Inter’s flawless defensive record, the script turned on its head. Inter’s impenetrable wall finally cracked at the San Siro and the game opened up to become a 2.5+ goal game. I told you the “untouchable” narrative was a myth and tonight proved it.
The Parisian Collapse in Lisbon
PSG -1.5 was the “Lock of the Day” for nearly everyone. People felt that the Parisian Giants were going to walk all over Lisbon tonight. The script had other plans. Sporting CP decided to stand their ground and walked off with a 2-1 victory. This also meant that the PSG “untouchable” away record was ready to be rewritten. Those who faded the spread as I recommended should be smiling while the public continues to make excuses.
